While camping, the refrigerator accumulates a lot of moisture. To keep mold and odors from forming in our refrigerator in between trips, we keep the doors open.
Our refrigerator does have built in latches to keep the doors open while in storage. However, in order to keep the doors from swinging during transport these latches only open a small crack. I would like to have more airflow to ensure the moisture is getting out.
To get a larger opening for more air flow, I use an Adjust-a-Brush Door Latch device that goes in between the freezer and refrigerator doors. This holds the doors open nicely while in storage.
The Adjust-a-Brush Door Latch does have a drawback though. It does not secure the refrigerator doors. So if you hitch up and get moving without removing this first, your doors will be loose. Luckily, the few times I have done this the Adjust-a-Brush Door Latch has fallen out and the doors latched themselves.
Habits or checklists will help limit the number of times this occurs. Every time I get ready to move from the storage lot, I walk down the interior and make sure the trailer is ready to roll. Removing the Adjust-a-Brush Door Latch is part of this walk down.
While at the storage lot, I have control over when the trailer moves. However, when the trailer is in for service I don’t know how much the trailed will be moved. In these situations, I use the built in latches to keep the refrigerator doors open and secured.
