Door Handle to the RIGHT over the door: Interior secured and ready to move.

Door Handle to the LEFT or OUT: Interior has not been checked and is NOT ready to move.

We use the position of the front door handle as a visual indicator to show if the trailer interior is ready to tow. When the door handle is out or in the left position, the interior of the trailer is NOT ready to tow and damage could occur. If the door handle is in the right position over the door, the interior of the trailer has been walked down and is ready to tow.
This is especially important when picking up to the trailer from storage. When in storage, the refrigerator is propped open with the adjust-a-brush door latch. This ensures that the refrigerator stays dry and airs out from the last camping trip. However, if the trailer is moved with the refrigerator door propped open, the doors will flap around potentially causing damage to the doors.
When we first purchased the trailer, we always kept the door handle in the right position over the door. The thought being; if the door was not latched completely, the handle would help keep the door from fully opening while moving. This worked fine until we noticed a problem after a couple of months.

When the door is in the right position over the door, the foam grip of the door handle is in contact with the door. Over time, the foam stuck to the door causing some of the foam to tear from the handle and remain stuck on the door. After realizing this, we decided to store the trailer with the door handle in the left position where the foam handle was not in contact with the trailer.
Since the foam door handle would not be in contact with the door long enough to stick during transit, we decided having the door handle in front of the door while traveling was still beneficial. This resulted in developing the routine of using the door handle position to indicate the readiness of the interior of the trailer.
