SWW To Cheyenne Mountain State Park

Cheyenne Mountain State Park is one of our favorite parks, especially for the spring and fall when SoWeWentKids are still in school. It is close enough we can get there after school on a Friday, but far enough to feel like we went somewhere. This campground is almost always on our summer schedule.

At the base of Cheyenne Mountain this campground offers spectacular sunrises looking east over the plains. With this campground being just below the famous entrance to NORAD’s Cheyenne Mountain Complex, we are still waiting to run into Colonel Jack O’Neill, Dr. Daniel Jackson, Major Samantha Carter, or Teal’c. However, if we do run into them, we will be very concerned about immanent Goa’uld invasion.

A unique feature to the campgrounds at Cheyenne Mountain State Park is their group sites. These sites have two full hookup spaces, each with their own picnic table and campfire ring. In addition to these nice spaces, these sites have an additional linked group space to use. While the group space can be a bit of a hike to get to, especially with your supplies, they have majestic views.

If you have someone you travel with, like @SoWeWentUncle, these are great. If you don’t have someone you travel with, their individual spaces look great as well. The sites in Gobbler Grove Campground look like they have spectacular views.

To reserve the group sites, you need to contact the park directly. They are not available online for booking.

Where to go to Mass:

Since Colorado Springs is close to home, we normally get home in time for Sunday evening Mass. So, we have not gone to mass from Cheyenne Mountain State Park yet. However, Colorado Springs is the seat of the Colorado Springs Diocese and St. Mary’s Cathedral is easily within distance of the campground. We are looking forward to adding a visit to the Cathedral in one of our future trips.
