Mueller State Park holds a very special place in our hearts. While we had a hard time getting out for an end of the season trip over Columbus Day weekend, it was worth it. Mueller State Park transported us to an enchanted place. When we arrived night had fallen and the clouds had settled into the mountains. A bright full moon penetrated through the mist, darkly illuminating the forest outside our camp.

The morning warmth pushed away late-night fog with the morning sun to bursting forth reveling the north-west face of Pikes Peak and Sentinel Point set behind the golden fall colors of Quaking Aspens backset against dark green pines. What a spectacular introduction to Mueller State Park!

Even though we have been to Mueller State Park over several long weekends, we have barely explored the 44 miles of hiking trails in this park. There are a variety of trails with varying distances that make it easy to spend short and long hikes in the park. Getting out at different times of the day is well worth. The fall lighting brings out rich colors that dramatically change throughout the day.
Even with everything in Mueller State Park there are more Colorado adventures all around the park.
Just south of the park is the historic mining town of Cripple Creek which has a must take mine tour of the Molly Kathleen Mine. The Phantom Canyon Gold Belt Tour takes you through Cripple Creeks past and present mining history with stunning Colorado mountain views. Don’t forget to stop by the Cripple Creek Visitor center to learn about the Cripple Creek area. We look forward to exploring more of what Cripple Creek has to offer.
Heading west from the park is Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument. This National Monument was a real eye opener to the history of Colorado and how different the climate has been over the millinea. It is wonderful that we have these snapshots in Colorados geologic history to explore.
With a short drive to the east, all the adventures around Colorado Springs are accessible; if you can make it out of the natural beauty this area has to offer.

It was sitting around this campfire with the sun setting on American’s mountain that we decided to share our family blessings because of an impulse buy at the Denver RV Show. Thus, began So We Went to the RV Show …
